AMBASSADOR REBECCA AMUGE OTENGO is the our Honourable Ugandan Ambassador to Ethiopia and her prolific role is centric on the patronic oversight of the association

DR. CAPT. JAMES R KANAGWA

Chairperson

CAPT. JAMES R KANAGWA  is a Revolutionary, Pan African Executive with an extensive background in Project Management, Finance, Strategy and General Aviation.  His professional experience includes more than 20 years of Commercial Banking, Corporate Development (M & A), consulting, strategic studies, General Aviation and Risk management. Currently he is the Country Representative (Ethiopia) for ECOBANK Group; previously he was a Senior Executive, ECOBANK Uganda responsible for Domestic Business including Government Institutions. Prior to that he was a Corporate Development officer (Project Manager), East & Southern Africa sub region for ECOBANK Group, whose mandate was to assist with the setting up of the Bank in the sub region. He also worked as a Senior Manager with Barclays Bank, Nile Bank Uganda and a Senior Mortgage officer, Origination and Construction finance with Housing Finance Bank Uganda. James is an accomplished international scholar and solid professional with travel experience of more than 100 countries. He was part of the team that assisted in redrafting /creation of the mortgage law of the Republic of Uganda 2009, in addition to supporting the Minister of Finance, Planning & Economic Development in shaping economic policy thru the CEO Summit think Tank, as the Club Leader for Infrastructure (2011 – 2013).  

 

James holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Walden University, USA, an MBA degree from ESAMI Business School, a BCOM degree from Panjab University INDIA, a Bachelor of Laws UK and a Diploma in National Security from Galilee Institute ISRAEL.  He is an alumnus of HARVARD Kennedy School, USA, INSEAD, FRANCE, Wharton School USA, CSCI SINGAPORE, GE Crotonville USA, after having completed Executive education. He is an FAA licensed Pilot in Command (Capt.) for medium aircrafts and also a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing –UK, Chartered Management Institute UK ( Chartered Fellow), Project Management Institute – USA, Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments UK (MCSI), Chartered Institute of Marketing UK (Fellow), International Leadership Association (ILA), USA, Center for Islamic Banking & Economics (CIBE) PAKISTAN, Strategic Management Society – USA, Milken Institute – USA, Rotary International (PHF), Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and a Fellow with the Royal society of arts (FRSA), UK.

 

DR. SUNDAY ANGOMA OKELLO

Vice Chairperson

SUNDAY ANGOMA OKELLO obtained his PhD in Public Policy majoring in Conflict, Security and Development from the International Development Department at the University of Birmingham, UK. He previously earned an MA in Peace and Reconciliation Studies from Coventry University, UK; Post Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution Skills from Lancaster University, UK; and two degrees in Manufacturing Engineering from Vaxjo University, Sweden.

He currently holds joint positions as Senior Research on the African Peace and Security Programme (APSP) and Assistant Professorship; both at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies, IPSS, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, He has been actively involved in the flagship research of the IPSS on African-led Solutions (AfSol) to Peace and Security. His recent work on South Sudan had been published as in a book by IPSS.

With close to 30 years of experience in the areas of peace, security, development, governance, and more, Dr Okello has extensive knowledge of Africa; in particular, the Great Lakes Region and the Horn, Central. He has lived, worked and conducted field research in Uganda, South Sudan, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, and in Eastern DRC following the activities of the Lord Resistance Army (LRA). He has also travelled extensively and lived in Serbia, UK, Sweden, Canada, Cambodia, Norway, Denmark, Tanzania, France, and Italy.

MS. SANDRA AKITE

Secretary

SANDRA AKITE is a Trade Policy Analyst at United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Regional Office for Africa. Her experience in economic policy analysis covers issues of international trade, international competitiveness, globalisation, and the links between trade and development.

Sandra holds an MA in Globalisation, Business and Development from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, UK and a Degree in Development Studies from Makerere University. Sandra is privileged to serve as a Secretary in the Association of Ugandans in Ethiopia (AUE)

MR.IVAN NKYAKANA

Deputy Secretary

Mr. IVAN NYAKANA, moved from Uganda to Ethiopia, Addis Ababa University. Passionate about leadership, management and engineering, the move to Addis Ababa University was a natural fit, currently studying his MSc. in Railway Engineering (Civil Infrastructure). He also studied Construction Management at Makerere University and Civil Engineering (Sustainable Building Engineering) at Metropolia University of Applied sciences, Finland and proceeded to work in a fast, upscale environment as a Communications Coordinator assuring marketing of benefits from the Uganda National Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors, UNABCEC to member construction firm/companies.

With encouragement from friends, Ivan represents all Ugandans and fellow students from Uganda at Addis Ababa University, as the Deputy Secretary on the Association of Ugandans in Ethiopia, AUE. In his free time, Ivan loves travelling, reading and writing.  Grateful for an amazing group of positive peers and friends, Ivan makes sure that new persons are welcomed in a way that has become customary in the world.

MR.MIKE BUGASON

Social Affairs

MIKE BUGASON is a Senior Political Advisor on the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) conflict and Senior Political Officer on Somalia/Horn of Africa in the Peace and Security Depart of the African Union (AU). Prior to joining the AU, he had served in various capacities in Government including as Charge D’Affaires at the Uganda Embassy in Kinshasa, DRC.

He holds M.A in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding from California State University Dominguez Hills, USA; B.A (Economics and Political Science) from Makerere University Kampala, Uganda; and is also an Alumnus of Galilee International Management Institute – Centre for Strategic Studies, Israel, where he studied Strategic National Security and Political Conflict Analysis.

MRS.DOROTHY AANYU ANGURA

Committee Member – UN Representative

MRS. DOROTHY AANYU ANGURA is an Education Specialist with UNICEF in Ethiopia. Her Experience in the education sector has seen her work with government ministries of education in Uganda, Somalia (across the three states), Rwanda and now Ethiopia. Her areas of speciality in education include improving quality in education, teacher training, curriculum development and design, Gender and equity in education and issues of access to education for out of school children including refugee education programming.

Dorothy holds an M Ed in Advanced Curriculum Studies and B Ed both of Makerere University, and a Diploma in Teacher Education from Kyambogo University. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Walden University, U.S. offering PhD in Education Policy, Leadership and Management.

MRS. JOY KIRINDA TIBENDERANA

Committee Member – Youth Representative

MRS. JOY KIRINDA is a MSc. Railway Engineering in Civil Infrastructure Student at the African Railway Center of Excellence at Addis Ababa University.

Joy holds a BSc. Civil Engineering from Makerere University. She has 5 years’ experience in Civil Works in mainly Highways Engineering Design and Construction and Procurement of Civil Works and Consultancy Services.

MR. ARYABAHA PHIDELIS EVANS

Embassy Representative

MR. ARYABAHA PHIDELIS EVANS is a Senior Diplomat, Researcher, Author and Teacher  – with about 20 years of diverse experience in Bilateral, Multilateral and Public Diplomacy; International Relations, Management and Public Administration; Teaching, Research and Publishing. He is currently posted to the Uganda Embassy in Addis Ababa where he represents Uganda to the African Union Peace and Security Council Committee of Experts (PSC-CoE); handles matters related to the African Union (AU), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) as well as Uganda’s bilateral relations with Ethiopia and Djibouti.

 

As a Foreign Service Officer, he has worked with Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Kampala in different Departments and in diverse capacities – as Desk Officer, Head of Division and Acting Head of Department. He previously served at the Uganda Embassy in Beijing – where he used his his teaching and research background to undertake an extensive study about China’s Politics, Economics, Security and Environment as well as China’s relations with Africa within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

 

Mr. Aryabaha attained a First Class M.A. (Summa Cum Laude) in Contemporary Diplomacy from the University of Malta; a Master’s Degree in Management Studies (MMS) and a Postgraduate Diploma (Class One) in Public Administration from the Uganda Management Institute (UMI), Kampala; and a Postgraduate Diploma in Commercial Diplomacy from the Institute for Trade and Commercial Diplomacy, Virginia, USA. He also holds a  BA in Social Sciences (Honours) from Makerere University, Kampala and a number of Professional Certificates in Diplomatic Negotiations; UNSC and AUPSC Methods of Work; Conflict Prevention and Peacemaking; Security Policy Management; Governance and Human Security; Trade Policy Management; ICT Diplomacy; and Computer Applications.

His recent publications include: The Role of Beijing Olympics in China’s Public Diplomacy, 2011; Staff Training, Resource Adequacy and Job Performance: A case of the Foreign Service of Uganda, 2017; and Beijing Olympics and China’s Public Diplomacy: Olympic Impact on China’s Politics, Economics, Security and Environment. Mr. Aryabaha has represented the Embassy on the AUE Executive since 2014.
